Success Stories: Lives Restored

Every case we take on represents a human life, a family waiting, and a story of hope. Here are some of the lives we have helped restore through our advocacy work.

Alabi

COP vs Alabi Blessing

Released after mediation
7 months
Agodi Correctional Centre

A son imprisoned by his own father over old, abandoned items. Family reconciliation achieved.

Charge:

Alleged theft of abandoned property

The Story:
We met Mr. Alabi, a 30-year-old man, in custody at the Agodi Correctional Centre on 23rd of May, 2025. His case commenced on the 14th of February, 2025. The complainant in the matter is his father, who alleged that Mr. Alabi and his younger brother sold his old, abandoned items formerly used for rental such as tables, chairs and canopies without his consent. As a result of this allegation, the father insisted that his son, Alabi, should remain in jail for as long as he lives. The younger brother was not charged alongside Mr. Alabi because the father believed that the elder son influenced him into committing the act. All efforts to secure Mr. Alabi's release were frustrated by the father who imposed a single condition that had to be met before he would agree to withdraw his complaint. Our NGO intervened on behalf of Mr. Alabi, met the condition set by the father and successfully secured his release on the 22nd of September, 2025. He had spent seven (7) months in custody before regaining his freedom.

Ongoing Support Needed

Mr. Alabi still requires support to reintegrate into society and rebuild his life.
